All Four Seasons

Spring

Spring is when the countryside around Rothiemurchus wakens from its winter slumber and comes alive once more. With the trees in bud and the flowers signalling the change of the seasons. Walks in the woods reveal deer, rabbit, red squirrels and even the occasional pine marten. Amongst the local speciality birds are crested tits and Ospreys, which can often be seen flying down the River Druie to the rear, on their way to the Fish Farm for supper!

Other wildlife attractions include the Loch Garten Osprey Centre, Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig, Reindeer at Glenmore, or wildlife photography sessions which can be arranged on request with well-known local photographers. If you prefer your wildlife for the table, fishing on the Spey, trout fishing and Stalking can be arranged on request.

Summer

With so much to do in the surrounding area, there should never be a dull moment. Strathspey is Scotland’s outdoor playground, with every activity imaginable. From relaxing hill and forest walks, to adrenalin pumping zip wires, gorge walks and white water rafting all close by. On a warm summers day the beach at Loch Morlich is a favourite spot, for lazing in the sun or sailing, canoing or windsurfing if you feel more energetic. There are Distilleries, Galleries and Tea rooms for a gentle day out. Horse riding, mountain biking, quad biking and golf within easy reach. A change from the mountains is found a short drive to the golden beaches and mild climate of Nairn and Findhorn on the Moray Coast.

The Riverside Lodge Garden Apartment’s garden is a safe place for both children and dogs, large enough for an adventure, but small enough to see where they are. A barbeque supper on the deck, watching the sun setting behind Craigellachie, is a great way to end the day.

Autumn

Autumn colours of yellow and golden brown on the trees and bracken can make this the most spectacular season at Riverside Lodge. Strathspey runs at a slower pace in the Autumn, and while most of the attractions remain all year round, they are that bit quieter when the schools are back. A great time of year for quieter visits to the hills, by foot or mountain bike, perhaps along the biking track up to Glenmore and Loch Morlich, or a more challenging route through the forest and hills, with the prospect of relaxing in the Sauna & Steam Room when you get back.

A perfect place and a perfect time for that quiet or romantic getaway, whether for a weekend or longer.

Winter

Riverside Lodge lies in a quiet spot just off the Ski Road, 10 mins to the Cairngorms. We are only 50 mins from the Lecht, giving access to 2 of Scotland’s Ski Areas, just in case you fancy a change! Aviemore is well known as the focal point for Scottish Skiing and of course Apre-Ski, with ski & board shops and hire, restaurants and bars, there should never be a dull moment. Stewart & Lizzie are experienced skiers and well placed to offer advice and suggestions if needed.

With all modern conveniences of a warm and cosy lodge, with central heating, loads of piping hot water, a bath in the main bathroom, plus a private Sauna & Steam Room for relaxing and easing those tired muscles after a day on the slopes. Riverside Lodge is a great place to be when the temperature drops and the snow comes in.
